Program (Stephanie Patton/Brittany Hauptman):

Come drown your sorrows of an anticipated tour of Ohio Stadium at a Wine Tasting Party at Spagio Cellars, 1295 Grandview Ave., at 5:30 p.m. July 19. First 40 to respond by July 13 to Pam Nuss, chapter administrator, at 939-1260 or by email at ifmacoh@aol.com get to sip and cry together. Those who dawdle are on their own. (You will be notified if you made the cut.)

This event is a last-minute substitution for the stadium trip because officials at The Ohio State University are not allowing any tours at the moment of the "Shoe," which, as you know, is undergoing a major face-lifting. The wine tasting promises to be a great evening of fun and camaraderie, and for only $10 per person. This includes a tasting of five wines and a bite or two of wood-fired pizza.

Interested? Then get your reservation in immediately and bring a $10 bill, or any combination thereof, to the wine cellar in Grandview. Though cash is preferred, credit cards and checks made payable to Spagio for the above amount will be accepted. The gathering begins at 5:30 p.m. with wine pouring at 6 p.m.

Five "Great Summer Wines" for under $10 will be tested. They are: Basa Sauvignon Blanc, Leaping Lizard Chardonnay, Blues Point Brut, Rosemount Estate Shiraz-Grenache, and Flynn Pinot Noir.

Membership (Daphne Swayze/Eileen Smith):

Membership has launched its July-September membership drive determined to eliminate the backlog of individuals and companies seeking associate status with the Central Ohio Chapter. With 20 applicants on the associate waiting list, it will take at least 60 new professional members to clear it. Chapter composition is based on a 75-25 percentage of professional members.

To spur interest in the membership drive, the committee is offering several outstanding prizes to those who recruit new members. First prize is dinner for two and two tickets to a Blue Jackets game; second prize is dinner for two; and third prize is a $50 gift certificate.

Community Service (Janeen Carson/Mark Haberman):

The committee is working hard to promote the annual IFMA National Convention (World Workplace 2000) in New Orleans from September 17-19. Deadline to take advantage of a price discount is July 10.

At least 12 Central Ohio chapter members have indicated to committee members their interest in attending the conference. While you don't have to go through the committee for hotel reservations or flights to New Orleans, the committee is attempting to get as many members as possible into the same hotel. To make a reservation, call either of the Community Service co-chairs or Stephanie Segall.

Also, the committee is continuing to sell golf shirts, sweatshirts, and golf towels with the IFMA logo. Proceeds will be used to bolster the chapter's annual Adopt-A-Family project. Golf shirts are $35, sweatshirts are $25, and golf towels are available for $10.

Associate Relations (Robert Davis/Dale Schmitz):

The committee is continuing its work for the sponsorship program and drive. These activities will get underway in October and run through the end of the year.

Education Committee (Stephanie Segall/Rosie Herrick):

The committee is taking reservations for the August 23 seminar, "Basics of Real Estate," at the Fawcett Center on Olentangy River Road at The Ohio State University. The four-hour seminar will be from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. and is limited to 50 persons, so make your reservation as soon as possible with Rosie Herrick at (614) 523-6132. A networking session is scheduled from 7 - 7:30 a. m. prior to the seminar.

The committee is working on a project management seminar that will be held October 18 at a time and place to be determined.

Also, the committee is seeking membership feedback on the two-year associate facility management degree program now offered at Columbus State Community College. The committee would like to know if IFMA members want to continue to support the program due to a decline in enrollment. You may contact either of the committee chairs.
