Committee ReportsFebruary 2001Program Committee - (2001 Co-Chairs, Stephanie Patton, Brittany Hauptman. Members, Bill Luallen, Gary Nuss, and Daphne Swayze)Paul Miller, who introduced feng shui, the ancient Chinese philosophy of living harmoniously with the energy of the surrounding environment, to the IFMA chapter two years ago, returns by popular demand as speaker for the February program. The program will be at 7:30 a.m. February 14 at the Fawcett Center at The Ohio State University. Traditionally taught and practiced in the Far East, feng shui was originally used as a way of divining where to site graves. It also was drawn upon to decide when and where to build a home, a community or an entire city. These same principles were then applied to the arrangement of the home and the use of its various rooms. All parts of the world have drawn on the traditional ideas of feng shui for the design and position of homes and places of worship, and a growing number of architects and decorators are integrating these ideas with contemporary building design. Community Service - (2001 Co-Chairs, Janeen Carson, Mark Haberman. Members, Angela Castner, Joyce Cavin, Steve Holcomb, Dorothy Leachman, Stephanie Segall, Lin Smirniotopoulos and Mark Zimmer)Plans for the year include a continuation of the popular and successful Adopt-a-Family program. Haberman says the committee will conduct another raffle to help raise funds for the program. Tickets will go on sale about Labor Day and the raffle will be held at the annual President's Dinner. The committee plans to again work through the St. John Center, 640 S. Ohio Ave., for families to assist. Haberman also reported the committee hopes to continue assisting some of the families helped last Thanksgiving and Christmas. "One or two of the families may own their homes. We hope to find some carpet through our vendors this spring for these homes. We also plan a clean-up day and do some cleaning and light painting at some of the homes if it is all right with the residents. We would probably do this in April or May, and all chapter members would we invited to participate." |
