Program Committee (2001 Co-Chairs, Stephanie Patton and Brittany Hauptman)

As crocus, daffodils, and tulips begin pushing skyward in the next few weeks, the central Ohio IFMA Chapter will add to Mother Nature's palette with an April program detailing the Lifestyle Trends and the Evolution of Color. Paul Williams, senior contract specialist with BASF Corp., Rosemont, Ill., will present the program, which will begin at 8 a.m. April 4 at the Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Road.

During Williams' presentation IFMA members will learn how color influences lifestyles, how the economy influences color, apparel color trends that offer direction for future furnishings, environmental issues affecting color direction, color marketing group efforts, and a new millennium color forecast.

Parking is free at the Fawcett Center and chapter members do not need to make reservations for the event. Members will gather at 7:30 a.m. for a continental breakfast and an opportunity to network. The program will conclude at 9 a.m.

Williams has 30 years of carpet industry experience as a trainer and consultant to various companies involved in the manufacturing, distribution, installation, and maintenance of both commercial and residential carpet.

He has served as a vice president for two major corporations involved in the manufacturing and distribution of broadloom carpet. His primary responsibility with BASF is to develop and conduct educational presentations for those interested in the design process.

Williams has conducted educational presentations in the public and private sectors and for various trade groups and associations. He has conducted training sessions for colleges and universities, covering a variety of subjects relating to contract specifying, color choice, fiber and yarn manufacturing and design, and other subjects pertaining to contract furnishings.

This is definitely a program you won't want to miss.

Membership Committee (2001 C0-Chairs, Daphne Swayze and Eileen Smith)

Chapter membership stands at 176. This includes 130 professional members, 44 associate members, and two student members, and brings the chapter to its proper professional-to-member ratio of 75/25 percent.

Since February 15, 2000, the chapter has increased by seven members, six professionals and one student. The ratio of professionals to associates also changed from 73/27 percent to its present desired ratio. However, the committee would like to increase the chapter's membership by another 10 members by the end of the year and would welcome ideas, referrals, and participation to attain this goal.

To accomplish this, the chapter needs to:

  • Recruit more professional members. Individual members don't have to do too much in this respect. Just give the committee names of potential members and information will be sent to them.

  • Recruit more student members. The board agreed last year to sponsor 10 student members, those individuals engaged in full-time educational programs in facility management or a related field of study at an accredited college or university. If you know of any students in the facilities, space planning architecture, construction management, real estate or interior design fields, or related aspects that would qualify them for student membership, pass their names on to the committee.

Anyone with questions about recruiting members or interested in becoming active with the Membership Committee to contact the committee co-chairs.

Community Service (2001 Co-Chairs Janeen Carson, Mark Haberman)

The committee is accepting items for the annual chapter raffle, which will be held at the President's Dinner in November. Proceeds from the raffle support the chapter's Adopt-a-Family program. Raffle tickets will go on sale about Labor Day.

Committee members also are making plans to continue helping some of the families assisted last Christmas and Thanksgiving. Chapter members interested in participating in a spring cleanup -outside painting, yard work, etc.-- at some of the homes should contact the committee's co-chairs.

Education Committee (2001 Co-chairs Ken Mulligan, Rosie Herrick; Members Peggy Trueman, Gene McHugh)

A seminar on contract negotiations will be presented on April 24 at the Holiday Inn on the Lane, 328 W. Lane Ave. The seminar, which will be from7:30 a.m. to noon, will involve at least two experts discussing how to negotiate leases, contracts with vendors, and for other services. (This program has been cancelled).

Mulligan says while the seminar is free to chapter member reservations are necessary. He says a reservation form will be posted on the chapter's Web site soon.

The committee also is planning a fall program on building space flexibility in the workplace. A date and location for this seminar will be announced later in the year but will be held following World Workplace 200l, scheduled for September 23-25 in Kansas City.
