Committee Descriptions

Associate Relations

The Associate Relations Committee has a two-fold purpose: Coordinate and manage the chapter’s sponsorship program, and recruit and help acquaint the chapter’s associate members with the many benefits of IFMA membership. The committee conducts the annual sponsorship drive of area companies and businesses, seeking to raise a minimum of $20,000 to underwrite the numerous programs and events that are offered free or at minimal charge to members. The committee meets with associate members to inform them of national and local IFMA guidelines and ethics so that they feel welcome and better understand their relationship to the chapter’s professional members.

Community Service

The Community Service Committee directs and supports the members of the chapter in providing assistance to those in need in the central Ohio community. To accomplish this, the committee strives to involve members in community projects, uses the talents and time of members to achieve positive results for projects, plans and selects projects to promote year-round involvement, works to communicate more effectively with the membership concerning projects, promotes and publishes the successful projects and programs, selects new projects for member involvement, and conducts the annual Adopt-a-Family Raffle to support the projects.

Education

The Education Committee endeavors to help professional members increase their knowledge and expertise in facility management. This is accomplished by providing seminars on topics of facility management that pertain to the working environment, conducting monthly study sessions to help prepare members for a Certified Facility Management designation, offering classes at local colleges to assist with additional education on specific areas, and collaborating with chapter members to find topics of need and interest.

Membership

The Membership Committee is responsible for bringing new members to IFMA and keeping “older” ones involved with chapter events and activities. During the past fiscal year, the committee was responsible for increasing chapter membership to over 200, changing the status of the chapter from small to large under the International’s guidelines. The committee maintains an updated list of all members, conducts the quarterly New Member Breakfasts, and communicates with members to keep them aware of chapter events and to see that their needs are being met through courses, programs, and social events.

Programs Committee

The Programs Committee selects and schedules programs for the monthly gatherings of the Central Ohio Chapter. The lone exception is the annual golf outing that has been under the direction of Jim Yankle since its inception. The committee’s decisions on programs are driven by the entire chapter through various brainstorming events in an effort to find topics, speakers, social events, tours, and recognition forums that are of interest and benefit to the membership. Committee members meet the first Monday of each month to discuss programs and where they will be presented.
