Just about everyone carted away something of value June 19 at the 15th Annual IFMA Golf Outing at the Shamrock Golf Club in Dublin.

Some even had to have assistance with the array of golf paraphernalia that was available for the taking provided you had a winning ticket.  Tournament chairman Jim Yankle estimated the value of the donated prizes to be in excess of $2,000.

Twenty-six foursomes teed off from either the first or10 tee throughout the late morning and early afternoon vying for skins money and for several cash awards and gift certificates for such golfing feats as longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin on several holes.

As the event ended and participants gathered on the tented patio for a buffet of hamburgers, barbequed chicken, baked beans, potato salad, cookies and drinks, the team of Dave Walton, Karl Nijak, Tom Pauling and Jim Cunningham was declared winner of the four-person scramble with a 13 under par 59.  The four received IFMA 2003 First-Place Hats and were granted all bragging rights until the tournament next year.

Waltons team also won one of the four $45 skins, and Walton won $160 for being closest to the pin on holes 5 and 13.   Dave Bongivengos team of Keen Neel, Dan Oyler, and Gary Kaiser won two skins and divided $90.  The team of Molly Ranz, Barry Longhino, Dorothy Leachman, and Fred Bruce won the fourth skin.  Bongivengo also won an Ohio State golf bag and a $50 gift certificate.

Other closest-to-the-pin winners of $80 were Garland Snyder, hole No. 3; Alex Abahazie, hole No. 7; and Joe Scalabrin, hole No. 11.  Longest drive honors and a $50 gift certificate went to Brendan Clarke with a drive estimated by Yankle of 340 yards on the par 5, 485-yard ninth hole.  Greg Cini on the 18th hole recorded the longest puttabout 16 feet.  He, too, received a $50 gift certificate.

As Yankle, Longhino, Ranz, and Sally Stayrook took charge of the raffle and prize table, the sun broke through on an otherwise cloudy day, and once again Yankles prediction held true that it never rains when IFMA gathers to play golf.

While most of the prizes obtained for the raffle came from the sponsors of the outing, the Central Ohio Chapter donated several $50-gift certificates and other companies such as Trane, Allsteel, Contract Interiors, Continental Office, and Choice Art, LLC participated by offering prizes.

The committee received the names of more than 55 individuals during its latest membership drive.

Next month is Chapter Night and the opportunity for members to gather on a strictly social basis.  The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. July 9 at a location to be determined. Also, new officers will be installed.
