The backroom of the Winking Lizard Tavern in Crosswoods was the place to be July 14 as members and guests of the Central Ohio IFMA Chapter gathered for the annual Chapter Night celebration.

The 35 or so persons who attended the social event on the city’s far north side fashioned a great evening, one centering on fellowship, food, and, of course, thirst-quenchers of choice.  Festivities got underway at 5:30 p.m. with a buffet of deep-fried chicken fingers, potato skins, hot and barbequed wings, cream and cheddar cheese pops, spinach artichoke dip, vegetable trays, and an assortment of dressings.

As the evening progressed, chapter president Stephanie Patton introduced and administered the oath of office to the officers for 2004-2005.

They are:  Eileen Smith, president; Dorothy Leachman, vice president; Stephanie Segall-Butcher, secretary; and Jennifer Jarrett, treasurer.  With the exception of Segall-Butcher, who was unable to attend the event, all are new to their elected positions.

Next month, chapter members and guests will have an opportunity to hear from former chapter president Vicki Simons, associate principal with BHDP Architecture and director of the firm’s Columbus operations, and others associated with Cincinnati-based BHDP.  The topic will be Workplace Strategies.

BHDP has created a planning and design tool that is a repository for research, issues, and information on four areas pertinent to a workplace project.  Simons’ presentation will include a discussion of the tool and will delve into several subtopics as selected by the audience.
The August program will get underway at 7:30 a.m. at the Fawcett Center at the Ohio State University, 2410 Olentangy River Rd. with a continental breakfast and an opportunity for networking.

Also, “FMs First,” the chapter’s new professional development series that debuted last month has been scheduled for a repeat performance September 15.

The roundtable discussions of problems and concerns pertaining particularly to facility managers will again be at The Grandview Café, 1455 W. Third Ave.  The event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Approximately 15 persons attended the first roundtable and discussed an assortment of topics that included space, processes, security, technology, and vendors. These and other issues will be on tap for discussion in September.

The roundtable was an opportunity for facility managers to become better acquainted and to share information in an informal, relaxed atmosphere while enjoying a libation of choice and hors d’oeuvres.

The roundtables are the result of extensive discussions by the chapter’s board on how best to meet the needs of the membership and will focus on the issues facility managers encounter.

If you would like to attend the September roundtable, please register online or by calling Donna Bryom, co-chair of the Facility Management Certificate Program, at (614) 723-4168.  It is important for planning that those interested in attending to place a reservation.
