The 14th Annual IFMA Chapter Golf Outing June 20 almost became a brother-sister event as Susan Mulgrew and Bill Weiss teamed up to pocket all the “closest-to-the-pin money.”  Weiss was closest to the cup on holes 7 and 14, and Mulgrew on 11.

And Mulgrew, who has just returned to work on key accounts at Fiber–Seal of Central Ohio gave fair warning that she had improved her game during a five-year hiatus from the company she and her brother started in 1980.  (See Sponsor Spotlight on Fiber-Seal in this month’s newsletter.)  Even her work at Fiber-Seal will become easier as Mulgrew won an office chair donated by Barry Longhino of Contract Interiors for the after-match raffle.

Twenty-five foursomes teed off on one of the warmest and sunniest days of the year at Shamrock Golf Club in a staggered scramble, and once again tournament chairman Jim Yankle’s prediction that it never rains when IFMA plays golf held true.

When the dust settled and the last foursome headed for the evening buffet, the team headed by IFMA member Mark Stuhlmiller and guests Tom O’Reilly, Don Rife, and Matt Backiewicz was declared winner with 13 under par.  For its efforts, the Stuhlmiller team received IFMA 2002 First-Place hats, Shamrock Golf Club towels, and “bragging rights until the tournament next year.”

The team of Alex Abahazie, Randy Richardson, Dave Conelly, and Colin Murray won two of the three “skins” and walked off with $200 to be split four ways.

Following the golf course scramble, members and guests scrambled for a buffet dinner of hamburgers, sausage, chicken, baked beans, salad, cookies, and drinks.  The cost of the dinner was offset by a number of “hole sponsors,” including:

Central Business Group, Excel Interiors, Inc., Allsteel, Re: Source Ohio, Aetna Building Maintenance, Herman Miller Inc., Contract Interiors, Inc., King Business Interiors, Haworth, Ruscilli Development, Designed Moves, Inc., TAC Americas, and Thomas W. Ruff.

Numerous items were donated as gifts for the raffle.  These ranged from golf balls to quality office chairs donated by Allsteel and Bill Thomason and Associates, Inc., and included umbrellas, hats, jackets, gloves, clubs, towels, gift bags, and a $200 Ohio State University golf bag from IFMA.  Gifts were donated by Thomas Ruff, Trane, King Business Interiors, Shamrock Golf Club, TAC Americas, Nationwide Insurance, Ruscilli Development, Herman Miller, Designed Moves, Inc, Perry Contract Services, Excel Interiors, Inc., IFMA, and “good friends,” who failed to put their name or their company’s name on the gift tag.

Proceeds from the sale raffle tickets will be used to help support the chapter’s Adopt-a-Family program that assists needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

In addition, the Central Ohio Chapter’s Membership Committee presented $25 gift certificates to eight Chapter members selected in a blind drawing.  Members had to be present at the time of the drawing to win.  Co-chair Eileen Smith said the committee plans to have a drawing at each monthly Chapter event.  The first winners are:  John Cleland, Wes Sigenthaler, Colin Murray, Vicki Simons, Bill Whitmeyer, Jim Martin, Molly Ranz, and Tom Logsdon.

The next event will be Chapter Night at Margarita Mama’s in the Arena District.  The evening’s festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include the induction of officers for the year
