The weather July 24 for the 20th Annual IFMA Golf Outing was just perfect—comfortable low 80s and no humidity.
The course at Riviera Golf Club was in excellent condition.
The buffet of brats, burgers, chicken, cole slaw, pasta salad, baked beans, fruit, and cookies was outstanding and quickly devoured.
The turnout was the largest ever with 102 participants.
In all, the event rated about 9.9 on the “Yankle scale,” and as always there was “no rain when IFMA gathers to play golf.”
Credit for such a successful event goes to Jim Yankle, outing director; Sandy Stayrook, immediate past chapter president; Stephan Cooke, and Matt Frost, co-chairs of the Programs Committee; and members Tim Rychel and Shannon Kirkendall.
Also, Bill Weiss was recognized for his support in enabling the chapter to play at Riviera where he is a member.
Not only did they put together a great outing, they helped raise through raffle ticket sales $810 for the chapter’s Community Service Committee. This and other monies will be used to support several deserving organizations and schools throughout the year.
(Read the Community Service distribution article in this month’s newsletter to see how sponsor and participant generosity is put to good use by the chapter.)
The foursome composed of Alan Tharp, Matt Sanders, Drew Thomas, and Tom Vennon recorded the “winning” score of 10 under 62. Each received Riviera hats, golf balls, and “bragging rights” as the Central Ohio IFMA Chapter’s best golfers for 2008.
Tharp’s team finished one stroke ahead of Dave Walton’s foursome. Walton played with Dan Oyer, Karl Nijak, and Dan Leverington.
Tharp’s crew also took home its share of individual prizes from the raffle. Among them was a bottle of Dom Perigon won by Vennon.
Money prizes of $80 went to Walton for closest to the hole on No. 9; Drew Thomas, closest on No. 12; and Kyle Robertson, closest on No. 16. Walton also won a dozen golf balls for the longest second shot on the par 5 No. 5. Skins of $50 went to teams headed by Eric Riehl, Dave Padavana, Tharp, and Walton.
Ryan Morris won a $50 gift certificate for the longest drive on No. 2. While no one actually measured the drive, it was estimated at “2,000 yards, at least!”
Numerous items donated by companies and organizations affiliated with IFMA were raffled. These included a dozen or so $50 gift certificates for use at Riviera donated by the chapter; $50 gift cards for use at Home Depot and Macys, and Cameron Mitchell; golf umbrella; golf balls; tickets to Columbus Clippers games; chair; and roadside emergency kit.
