There were 8,489 fans in the stands at Huntington Park June 8 when the Rochester Red Wings beat the league-leading Columbus Clippers, 7-5.
Most weren’t members of the Central Ohio IFMA Chapter, but they may have wished they were.
Most didn’t dine on hotdogs, hamburgers, cheese and relish trays, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, potato chips, cookies, water, and soda as IFMA members, their families, and guests did.
Most didn’t stay dry as a light rain fell off and on during the game. IFMA members, families, and guests did.
Most probably didn’t have as great a time as the 100 or so IFMA members and their children and guests who took over the weather-protected family picnic area on the second level club patio along the left field line.
This was the chapter’s first Family Night with the Columbus Clippers, and, quite possibly, not the last. The event got underway with the picnic beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the baseball game at 7 p.m.
Lisa Schultz, Membership Committee co-chair, said the event was a “good team effort by members of the Membership and Programs committees.”
Schultz said, “I handled the financial end. Joyce Strait, Membership co-chair, was responsible for obtaining available dates atHuntington Park and for the picnic menu. Stephan Cooke, Programs chair, and Steve Bauman, Membership member, visited the park to see what accommodations were available for a large group.
“We received a number of positive comments from those who attended. People said the event went well, that they enjoyed it, and thanked committee members for making it possible.
The Membership Committee met June 30 and decided to survey those who attended to see if they would like to schedule the event next year. Schultz is optimistic that the survey results will be positive and event will be on the 2011 social calendar.
