Over a hundred years ago, the Limbach Company began as a modest, one-man sheet metal company in Pittsburgh, PA.

Today, Limbach has grown into one of the nation’s premier mechanical contractors, operating in 24 major markets throughout the U.S.  Consistently ranked in the top 15 of Engineering News-Record’s Top Specialty Contractors, Limbach’s century-spanning expertise has given rise to a comprehensive understanding of the entire construction process.

A Gold Level sponsor of the Central Ohio IFMA Chapter, Limbach is an HVAC company specializing in energy management.  The firm’s current focus is in sustainable building solutions and performance contracting.

As its first national branch and earliest provider of energy service company offerings, Limbach’s Columbus operation has played a paramount role in defining the company’s green initiatives.

For the last 12 years, Limbach has led the industry in designing and installing, efficient, environmentally conscience systems.  From Building Information Modeling (BIM) enhanced building design to energy retrofit services, Limbach delivers cost-effective, sustainable solutions to schools, hospitals, commercial properties, and government buildings throughout Ohio.

Largely due to their pioneering efforts, Limbach has acquired the requisite knowledge and positioning to prosper in the emerging green economy.

Highlighting their exemplary work, Limbach’s portfolio consists of many award-winning projects.  Recently, the Associated General Contractors of America presented Limbach Columbus with a prestigious Build Ohio Award at their 2009 Build Ohio Celebration.

Established in 1991, the Build Ohio Awards Program distinguishes excellence in the commercial construction industry and has become the preeminent statewide construction award.  One of only eight winners, Limbach’s accolade was in the ‘Specialty’ category for their critical infrastructure upgrade at Columbus’ Mt. Carmel West Hospital.

Commissioned by Mt. Carmel Health, the $6.1 million fast-track project involved renovating the hospital’s critical mechanical and plumbing systems, including the replacement of 20 air handling units of which 14 of the air handling units served Operating Rooms.

Employing a design assist method, Limbach devised numerous solutions that improved the existing operating system, enabled Mt. Carmel to remain operational during construction, and generated a $1.5 million budgetary savings redirected for further upgrades.

Additionally, Limbach Columbus is a three-time recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency, which recognizes organizations for their “efforts to improve energy efficiency, the environment, and Ohio’s economic competitiveness.”  For each of these projects, Limbach employed a design assist model to realize significant savings in reduced utility expenses.

While Limbach achieved dramatic results on all three efforts, the 2006 project at the Southeastern Correctional Institute (SCI) in Lancaster, OH is of particular note.  Prior to Limbach’s involvement, SCI was spending an average of $1,037,082 annually, on electricity and natural gas.

By renovating inefficient lighting, improving the steam system, installing gas heaters, managing peak demand, insulating attics, and replacing outdated windows and doors, the annual energy bills dropped by $302,103 - a savings of 29 percent!

By consistanly achieving such remarkable savings, Limbach has experienced an increasing demand for their energy solutions services.  Prompted by this unprecedented growth, the Columbus branch relocated to a new facility last year possessing the expanded space to accommodate their continued development.

The move was met with great excitement by both the City of Columbus and the State of Ohio, as it accompanied the branch’s proposed investment of approximately $1.35 million and the subsequent creation of 31 new permanent full-time positions.

The city demonstrated its support with the approval of a Jobs Growth Incentive, enabling the company to retain 25 to 35 percent of the taxes paid by its employees over the next five years.  Additionally, the city granted an Enterprise Zone tax abatement of 75% for the coming decade.  The state also committed more than $714,000 in further incentives.

Reflecting Limbach’s ongoing commitment to green building tactics and sustainability, the new facility at 822 Cleveland Ave. integrates a number of energy efficient design features.  This includes an Automated Logic Energy Management Control System, T-8 high bay reflective light fixtures, waterless urinals, low-flow water closets, high efficiency water fixtures, and filtered water stations.

Combined with the introduction of an extensive recycling program, the City identified Limbach Columbus as a “GreenSpot” business, recognizing their devotion to environmental consciousness.

Limbach believes in developing strong relationships throughout the industry and within their community.  As environmental concerns continue to shape the future of the nation, the company appreciates that energy conservation and sustainability is a communal effort.

By remaining at the forefront of emerging technologies and building strategies, Limbach is committed to doing its part in the quest for a greener tomorrow.
